Resumen:
The Neotropical region is renowned for its avian diversity and birds of preyare not an exception. This region hosts one of the greatest species richnessof raptors and includes in this list some of the most singular and flagshiprepresentatives, such as the Andean condor and the harpy eagle. Many ofthe raptor species ranging in this region are also listed as Threatened andEndangered by the UICN. Conversion and destruction of natural habitats,active persecution, poisoning and other human related causes are among thethreats that these species face in this region. Here we examine and reviewraptor diversity and conservation in the Neotropics pointing gaps and futureresearch needed aiming to preserve their populations.
