The Weariness of Democracy as a theoretical political problem: lessons from Argentina to the Global Political Science

I would like to focus on a text that we all surely know, “Horizontal Accountability and New Polyarchies”, written by Guillermo O’Donnell in 1998. In this text, O’Donnell deals with the impact of the republican debate on the way that Political Science conceptualizes democracy. In my opinion, “Horizontal Accountability” is a master piece. Why? Because here, O’Donnell introduces the concept of freedom as non-domination in the field of political science before Anglo-Saxon neo-republican theorists even considered this possibility.
