Resumen:
Bone graft substitutes (BGS) are used to stimulate bone regeneration. They are classified in natives, synthetic and its combination. Also, natives could be autogenous, allograft and xenograft. Polylactic-polyglycolyc acids (PLA-PGA) are synthetic bone graft. Objective: to compare bone formation obtained from PLA-PGA and bone human particles (HMH) from rat post-extraction dental pocket. Materials and Method: 45 Wistar rats (90g) received 1º upper right molar extractions. Then, were divided in three groups; Control Group (CG): without any BGS; Group A (AG): filled with PLA–PGA and Group B(BG) filled with HMH. The animals were euthanized at 1, 2 and 3 weeks (w). The samples obtained were fixed in 10% buffered formalin, slowly decalcified (Morse modified solution) and processed in routine manner. Histological and histometrical studies were done. Results: AG: 1°w: fibroblastic tissue and PLA PGA particles surrounded by giant cells, few inflammatory cells. 2°w: new bone and amorphous material was found around PLA-PGA. 3°w: new bone around particles. BG: 1°w: fibroblastic tissue. 2°w: congestion and bone-formation. 3°w: bone tissue around HMH particles. CG: 1°w: granulation tissue with few inflammatory cells. 2°w: fibrous tissue and reticular bone formation. 3°w: bone tissue. Morphometry: Bone tissue formation from 1°s: CG: 27.3 ± 10.76; GA:47.71± 13.13; BG: 52,86 ± 6.87. 2°s CG: 48.71± 5.79; AG:44.14± 14.07; BG: 60.00± 10.52. 3°s CG: 64.86 ±5.43; AG:81.71±11.14; BG:72.71±3-89. The date analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis Test showed at 1°w (p=0,017) and 3°w (p=0,026) significant differences. Conclusions: The PLA-PGA was osteoconductive even when initial inflammatory reaction was observed. The HMH material stimulated osteopromotion. The BGS increase the amount of bone new correcting alveolar reasorption.
