Resumen:
Every language comprises both logical and cultural aspects of all sorts which sum up the idiosyncrasy of people, nations, races, etc. The logical or formal nature has been systematized by the field of  Linguistics in the areas of Syntax, Morphology, Semantics and Phonology. On the other hand, the cultural aspect implies “digging” in the intricate thread formed by the history of a language together with its speakers. "The interaction between men, the historical events, the needs of communication that languages must fulfill are responsible for changes" (Pla, page 77).             Both aspects mentioned (formal and historical) are not usually consciously known when "dealing" with our mother tongue. We become vividly aware of those aspects, as well as the worldview hidden in our mother tongue, when learning a foreign language. When realizing about the differences between these two systems of representation (the mother tongue and the foreign language) our view of the world does not remain neutral. Unfortunately, this challenging experience we go through since the first contact with unknown signs is felt in terms of difficulties to understand the messages and the new norms, or in terms of discrepancy between the second language and our own, considered as a paradigm. However, studying a different language, considered as an unknown system but a coherently organized one, may become the opportunity to go beyond  the deep footprints our mother tongue has left in our psyche, our behavior, our view of the world.
