In the present work different aspects of extraction of fixed oils from seeds, with near critical fluids, are studied. As a first step experiments of extraction efficiency using CO2 and propane, in a high pressure Soxhlet extractor, and conventional solvents were carried out. Process design data were obtained of the flow of near critical fluids and conventional solvents on packed beds of grounded seeds. The problems of flow distribution, liquid requirements and recycle are addressed. Process design criteria for the extraction of seeds with near critical fluids are presented.
