Resumen:
The grafting process of N-carbamyl maleamic acid (NCMA) onto polypropylene (PP) was performed in the molten state with a Werner & Pleiderer ZSK 30 twin extruder operating always with the same screw configuration at a rotational speed of 70 rpm and barrel temperature of . The studies were carried out in transient state, by studying the Residential Time Distribution (RTD) curves eluting from the extruder. Pulses of constant weight containing different proportions of PP, NCMA and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy) hexane (DBPH) were fed to the extruder in the following proportions: 0.66, 0.88 and 1.11% of NCMA, and 1, 0.5 and 0.25% of DBPH (percentage weight fraction referred to the base of PP). The concentration of PP varied with the concentration of NCMA and DHBP. The barrel temperature was kept constant at 180, 210 and 240°C. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to verify the grafting of NCMA.
