Resumen:
The dye methylene blue (MB) was supported on modified films of polypropylene (PP) and its reaction with ascorbic acid (AsA) was analyzed. PP surface was modified by photograft polymerization of acrylic acid (AA) in order to obtain PP-g-PAA with a subsequent immobilization of chitosan (Cs). Then, the dye was adsorbed on different surface levels of the film (PP-g-PAA-Cs) using three techniques. By UV-Vis spectrophotometry could confirm that the binding of dye to the modified surface was stable and that its redox activity remains. From the kinetics of reduction of MB with AsA was proposed a mathematical model describing the structural environment where the reaction takes place. The redox kinetics depends on the diffusion coefficient and the film thickness, which results from the self-assembly of layers of PAA-Cs on the film.
