The sequence stratigraphic analysis of the Malargüe Group cropping out in the southern part of Mendoza Province, has allowed the identification of five depositional sequences. The highest relative rise of the sea level was recorded during upper Maastrichtian (sequence III), after that a rapid relative fall in sea level generated the basinward migration of the shoreline accomplished by parasequences progradation. Nonmarine facies are dominant in the depositional sequences IV and V (uppermost Maastrichtian-upper Danian), indicating that the marine conditions were at south of 36º S.L. at that time. Our data allow to confirm that there was no connection between Pacific and Atlantic oceans in the south of Mendoza Province as it was previously considered by other authors
