Resumen:
Liolaemus isthe most diverse lizard genus in the world, with ~10 new species described eachyear. Turbulent taxonomy and interspecific gene flow make species delimitationa difficult task in this group. Here, I assess species limits using two typesof ?next-generation? datasets within the Liolaemusfitzingerii species group. This group is comprised of ~15 described speciesand appears to have multiple contact zones of hybridization between speciesbased on previous mtDNA and morphological analyses. With a SNP dataset of 2,500loci and 160 individuals, different population clustering algorithms identifybetween 4-8 ?species?. Phylogenies reconstructed with multiple approaches usinga sequence capture dataset consisting of 584 loci and 28 individuals provideevidence for a rapid radiation and little support for relationships betweenspecies, implying potentially 3-5 ?good? species with high levels of phenotypicvariation. I will discuss how we integrated results from these disparateanalyses and datasets to make a decision on how many species to recognize inthis group, and generally, the broad applicability of these approaches forother researchers confronting similar problems.
