Resumen:
PRAGMATICS AND METAPRAGMATICS OF BELONGING AND BECOMING AMONGST THE MAPUCHE OF ARGENTINA. Lucía Golluscio (lag@lingan.filo.uba.ar) and Claudia Briones (cbriones@filo.uba.ar)CONICET and University of Buenos Aires, ARGENTINAAbstractThis paper analyzes a dialogue in mapudungun ?language of the land", between two aged speakers from different Mapuche communities of Argentina, recorded in natural context. We aim at visualizing how, by reflecting on and speaking about the language of their elders in that very language (dungu), two newly acquainted people inscribe notions and practices of ?community".We focus on discursive and metadiscursive operations as culture production processes that, weaving senses of becoming and belonging, convert the exchange into an active instance of communalization. By concentrating on the pragmatic dimension of the event, we examine how the speakers both invest signs with accents that render the elicited cultural referents meaningful, and frame and evaluate the situation to regulate social interaction. Keywords: Mapuche, (Meta)Pragmatics, (Meta)Communication, (Meta)Culture, Community-building, Ritual Dialogue, Discourse analysis.
