Resumen:
Embryonic rock glaciers are important indicators of Andean permafrost and water reservoirs in the Central Andes. In the present study embryonic rock glaciers were detected and observed applying a high resolution laser scanner as a direct method for data collection. The study area is located at -26°s and -69°w, Paso de Agua Negra, Province of San Juan, Argentina, at 30 at a height of 4000m asl approximately. This method allows to identify and distinguish detailed different characteristics of embryonic rock glaciers, the advances of which may be monitored in the future in order to determine their cryogenic activity. The characteristics to be observed are: their morphology in general, changes in the area of origin and accumulation zone of cryosediments as well as variations of the front slope. The use of this innovative method of data collection is relevant as, it allows to establish the necessary bases for monitoring these frozen bodies.
