Resumen:
Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a leading cause of cancerdeath. Nanotechnology has focused on reaching more effectivetreatments. In this concern, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)have been studied for a wide range of biomedical applicationsrelated to CRC, such as diagnostic imaging, drug delivery andthermal therapy. However, limited research is currently found inthe open literature that refers to nanosystems combining allthese mentioned areas (theranostics). When developing nanosystemsintended as theranostics applied to CRC, possiblevariations between patients must be considered. Therefore, multiple in vitro assays are required as guidance for futurepreclinical and clinical trials. The objective of this contribution isto evaluate the available and recent literature regarding theinteractions of MNP and CRC models, aiming to critically analyzethe information given by the commonly used assays andevaluate the data provided by each one with a view toimplementing this novel technology in CRC diagnostics andtherapy.
