Resumen:
Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is an widely used imaging technique for atherosclerotic plaque assessment, interventionist guidance, stent deploy visualization and lately as tissue characterization tool. Some IVUS applications solve the problem of transducer motion by gating a particular phase of the study, while other applications such as elastogra- phy or spatio-temporal vessel reconstruction, combine image data from different cardiac phases and the gating solution is not so straight for- ward. In the later, it is mandatory for the structures in different cardiac phases to be aligned (cross-sectional registration) and in the correct po- sition along the vessel axis (longitudinal registration). In this paper, a novel method to perform cross-sectional and longitudinal registration is presented by minimizing the correlation of the structures among a local set of frames. To assess the performance of the method, frames immedi- ately after carina bifurcation are marked at the different cardiac phases and then the error in their registration is measured. Also, transducer trajectories during the pullback are presented, recovered as the applied translations and rotations employed for registration.
