Invited IL05Modelling and Interpreting Fluorescence and Reflectancein Biological SystemsMaría Gabriela Lagorio 1, 21 Universidad de Buenos Aires, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Departamento de Química Inorgánica, Analítica y Química Física and 2 CONICET - Universidad de Buenos Aires, Instituto de Química Física de los Materiales, Medio Ambiente y Energía (INQUIMAE), Buenos Aires, Argentina.e-mail: mgl@qi.fcen.uba.arOur research interest is focused on modelling the interaction of light with biological matter. In particular, we are interested in analyzing the reflectance and/or fluorescence emitted by the biological systems to get information in a non-destructive way.The interpretation of the photophysical and spectroscopic properties of these systems is usually complicated by their elevated concentration of chromophores and their high scattering of light. Because of this, the accurate modelling of the interaction with light helps to avoid artifacts and to rationalize the processes that take place. In this talk, I will present some of our contributions in this area. They range from the development of theoretical approaches to the implementation of applied methodologies.I will describe physical models used in the analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence in leaves and canopy with application in remote sensing [1, 2], optical methodologies for food control [3- 4] and quantification of fluorescence in vivo for evaluation of its relevance as a biosignal [5-7].AcknowledgmentsThe University of Buenos Aires, Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica and CONICET are acknowledged for financial support.References:[1] Cordon, G.
