Resumen:
The use of medicinal plants by the Mapuche people has been extensively documented and wild plants are still used to treat diverse skin disorders among other medical diseases, in order to evaluate quantitatively the incidence of dermatological reports and the medicinal plants used in a Mapuche communty, we interviewed 22 people from the Curruhuinca community (37 % of the population), located in the SW Neuquen, Argentina. Out of all the therapeutic reports, 6 % were related to dermatological diseases and 11 % of the species cited were used for dermatological purposes. A total of 62 % of the dermatological reports consisted of the following four species: Plantago lanceolata, Erodium cicutarium, Coraria rustifolia and Buddleja globosa. 75 % of the reported effects were recorded for skin wound treatments. In conclusion, this Mapuche community still utilizes a difined group of plants for dermatological purposes, particularly for skin wound treatment.
