The relationship between the frozen - thawed semen quality and the reproductive efficiency in Merino rams was studied. The microscopical masal motility (MMM), progressive individual motility (PIM), live spermatozoa percentage (LSP), and the hipoosmotic swelling test (Host) were used to evaluate semen quality. The total spermatic number (TSN) was determined. Oestrus synchronization was carried out with intravaginal progestagen sponges and a dose of 300 UI of eCG. Frozen semen from 10 rams was employed in the systematic laparoscopic artificial insemination (SLAI) of 645 ewes. SLAI was performed 60±2 hours after the sponge removal. The MMM and PIM were significantly correlated but the MMM was not significantly correlated neither with LSP nor with the Host. The LSP was significantly related with PIM and Host, and PIM and Host were significantly correlated between them. Simple lineal regression showed that the reproductive efficiency, expressed by pregnancy rate per ram was significantly estimated by PIM and LSP but not by MMM and Host. Multiple lineal regression (Stepwise selection method) showed that the PIM test was the only one that significantly contributed to the estimation of semen fertility (R2 = 0,67 , P = 0.0036).
