Resumen:
The operability of reactive distillation columns with output multiple steady states during their start-up is analyzed by dynamic simulation. The behavior of the multiplicity of solutions is analyzed from the procedures point of view. Various steady states are reached by applying different start-up configurations and policies, which imply different sets of feed streams or sets of manual actions of opening/closing valves, respectively. The well-known Ethylene Glycol production system presenting multiple solutions at steady state (Ciric & Miao, 1994) is studied in this paper. The transient responses of the reactive distillation column yielding different steady states during start-up operation are also shown. By examining the alternatives studied in this work, the aim is to show how a startup policy/configuration can improve or debase the overall process.
