Resumen:
While population eruptions of outbreak species —those species that undergo unsustainable population growth— can dramatically impact ecosystems and negatively influence human livelihoods, they often are essential features of normal ecosystem function. Current (and predicted) global changes are altering population dynamics of numerous outbreak species. Knowledge on how populations of these species respond to global change is urgently needed in order to mitigate the detrimental effects of outbreaks without compromising ecosystem function.
