Resumen:
The purpose of this study was to obtain information about the faunistic composition, temporal-spatial distribution and density of benthic communities in the Yacyretá area, prior to the impoundment of the Upper Paraná River. This work provide prliminary information about general basis characteristic of the benthic complex especially in the zone where the island will be flooded when the dam reaches its maximun water level, progressively changing from typical lotic environment to a lentic one.
