Resumen:
The osteology of the anterior caudal transverse processes in sauropod dinosaurs is described. An accurate nomenclature and information about its taxonomic and functional aspects are provided. The anterior caudal transverse processes may be single or double structures; when they are double, the dorsal element represents the diapophysis while the ventral one represents the parapophysis plus a fused rib component. The ventral laminae, which are originated on caudal transverse processes, are renamed. The morphological pattern seen in proximal caudals is related to the development of associated soft tissues.
