Resumen:
The short and medium-term coastal evolutionof Necochea Municipality, Buenos Aires province(Argentina) was studied. The medium-term evolution studywas based on aerial photographs from 1967 and 1984, andsatellite images from 2004, using the dune or cliff toe ascoastline indicator. The short-term evolution was studiedfrom February 2006 to December 2009 by means of sea-sonal beach profiles and sediment sampling. Resultsshowed that in the medium-term at Necochea, the coastlinehas remained stable or has advanced. Whereas in the short-term, the analysis has evidenced incipient erosion pro-cesses. On the other hand, at Queque´n the retreat of thecoastline and the negative sedimentary balances (mediumand short-term) are clearly indicating an accentuated ero-sion process. The different degrees of coastal erosion arerelated in part to beach vulnerability to wave storms butmainly to anthropogenic actions, which have affected thebeach sediment supply. These results evidence the neces-sity to develop a coastal management programme.
