Resumen:
Semiterrestrial crabs possess a highly developed visual system anddisplay conspicuous visual guided behaviours (e.g. Hemmi and Zeil 2003);however, relatively little was known until recently about the neuralorganization and cellular morphologies of crustacean optic neuropils.Among decapods, the crayfish was the single taxon from which optic lobeneuroanatomy was available in some detail (Strausfeld and Nässel 1980).In the last 15 years, we have produced detailed anatomical data inNeohelice granulata, a species that has a highly developed visual system(Berón de Astrada and Tomsic 2002, Sztarker et al. 2005, 2009, DeAstrada et al. 2011, Astrada et al. 2012, Sztarker and Tomsic 2014,Bengochea et al. 2018). The present chapter briefly describes the opticalfeatures and visual acuity of Neohelice, the anatomical organization of itsoptic lobes and the neural architecture of the visual neuropils.
