Resumen:
Summary: The results are given of an ethnobotanical study of two Guaraní communities that use the natural resources of the Guaraní Multiple-Use Reserve. This is a protected area of 5343 hectares in Misiones, Argentina. The communities of Caramelito and Taruma Poty were studied. The inhabitants of Caramelito belong to the Mbya branch of the Guaraní while those of Taruma Poty are from the Ava-Chiripa branch. Because an exhaustive floristic study of the region was made we were able to estimate with precision the proportion of plants used by the members of these communities in relation to the total number of native vascular plants in the reserve. We describe and illustrate here the most important use categories and give a list of species with indigenous names, uses, habitats where they grow and references to the voucher herbarium material. This study showed that the Multiple-use Reserve is effective in supplying many essential resources for the Guaraní. We also urge better conservation of this area of forest upon which the Guaraní depend so extensively for their livelihood.
