Resumen:
Genetic diversity is a measure of genetic variation among individuals of a species. Characterizing the genetic diversity of a species is the first step to better understanding its evolutionary history, and the impact of environmental and demographic changes that act upon it. Peale?s dolphins are endemic from southern South America. One population from a Marine Protective Area in Argentina exhibited moderate values of genetic diversity, and surprisingly reveals a demographic history different from other top marine predators in the region. This is the first genetic study in the species, but more information is required to comprehensively understand Peale?s dolphins.
