Resumen:
Magellanic penguins breed along the southern coast of Southamerica, from Isla Algarrobo in Chile (grados) to Complejo Islote Lobos in Argentina (41S). The largest colony known in Chile is located at Isla Magdalena(IM) (grados), the Monumento Natural Los Pinguinos Protected Area located at the Strait of Magellan. The colonies of this species show mixed population growth trends in different regions of its distribution and in many areas this info is missing. We present the results of our monitoring program, updating the population size for colonies in the southern extreme of Chile (IM, Isla Contramaestre and Seno Otway) and breeding performance of IM. For IM, populations estimates were conducted through circular plots in 2011, 2014, 2017, and 2018 and in 2014 for the other colonies. Breeding success was estimated following X to X nests during the breeding season. (Necesito ver las tablas para describir como se comport la poblacion). En función de eso podría decirse que?: IM population size showed a continued decline from XXX reported by XXX(anio) to XXX(2018). Nesting density in our 32 sample plots decreased from XXX in xx to XX in XXX. Breeding success also showed a steady decline from XX (anio) to XXX(anio). Populatio size also showed a remarkable decline compared to previous reports: IC from xxx(anio) to xxx(2014) and SO from XXX(anio) to XXX(anio). A redistribution of this species has been reported for other latitudes. It is crucial to continue monitoring these colonies and conduct studies to increase our understanding of the drivers of these population declines. The estimation of the breeding population was made with circular plots on october or november on 2011, 2014, 2017, 2018. Most of the plots were the same in different years. The succes was estimating monitoring nest on the colony Aditionally we estimated the population in other areas like Seno Otway and Contramaestre island in 2014. From 32 circular plots evaluated every year, % percent decrease the density. The penguin population estimated wasThe success of the nest was por año?). The population in the other areas in 2014 was less than other records in these areas Magellanic breeders are decreasing in the area like is happening in other species in Chile or magellanic penguin in south atlantic colonies. The increament of the rain for the climate change produjo una pérdida de nidos en Isla Magdalena. The migration is affecting the recruitment he breeders por petróleo, falta de alimento en esas areas de alimentación. Magellanic penguins are moving between colonies in Argentina, but in Chile pareciera que la disminucipon es un fenómeno general? en varias colonias. While in the island were breeders every year, the success was not different
