Resumen:
The study of the trophic ecology of birds outside thebreeding season allows the understanding of predator-prey relationships, population dynamics, and interactions with human activities. Using stableisotope analysis (δ15N, δ13C) of primary feathers moultedsequentially we tested the trophic niche variation during the non-breedingperiod in Kelp gulls Larus dominicanus froma colony in coastal Patagonia, Argentina. Isotopic niche position varied due toprogressive δ15N depletion and the niche spread showed aprogressive expansion. Low δ13C values of some feathers suggestthat trophic niche expansion may be driven by the utilization of non-marinefood resources by some individuals.
