Resumen:
About 60 of the 250 species of Eryngium are distributed in western Eurasia and northernAfrica. In Turkey, Eryngium is represented by 24 species (Özhatay N & Kültür Ş, 2006; Ecevit Genç et al., 2012), 12 of which are endemic. To date, only eight of the Turkish species have been included in a molecular phylogenetic study (Calviño et al., 2008), all of these fall within Eryngium subgenus Eryngium. Here, we present a preliminary phylogeny of this Old World subgenus based on sequence data from the chloroplast DNA trnQ?trnK 5´-exon and nuclear ribosomalDNA ITS regions in order to elucidate the phylogenetic positions of the Eryngium from Turkey. In total, 43 species of Eryngium subgenus Eryngium are analyzed using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods, including 22 (11 endemics) of the 24 species from Turkey. The morphological affinities between the species will be discussed based on the phylogeny.
