Resumen:
Wildlife health is an increasingly important component of the conservation of wild species. With human-induced global change, including biodiversity and habitat loss and degradation, wildlife is constantly subject to stressors that place it at an escalating risk ofdisease. This chapter provides a review of available information on the parasitic, viral, and bacterial diseases of the guanaco in thePatagonian region. Scientific knowledge on the overall health and disease risks for wild guanacos is still limited, and significant gapsexist in information to promote their conservation. Health management measures for livestock stocks that share the environmentwith this species, together with continuous monitoring of the health of wild guanacos, will be essential for the successfulconservation of Patagonia’s biodiversity.
