On the solubility of Sn in the LaMnO perovskite

Resumen:
The incorporation of Sn and its effect on the magnetic response of the LaMnO perovskite have been studied by XRD, SEM, EDS and yd.c. magnetization in samples with nominal composition La Sn MnO (x50.00, 0.10, 0.30 and 0.50). The solubility of Sn in the ABO 12x x y 3structure strongly depends on the synthesis temperature (T ). For T .8508C a multiphase material composed of SnO , La Sn O , Mn O s s 2 2 2 7 3 4and LaMnO is obtained with a Sn concentration of only 1 at.% in the ABO structure. The formation of a second pyrochlore phase y 3including both Sn and Mn was not observed in any of the samples, in disagreement with other works. The paramagnetic–ferromagnetictransitions at T|260 K for x50.30 and T|210 K for x50.50 samples, correspond to the ABO phase, while the magnetic transition 3around 45 K for the x50.50 sample may be due to Mn O .
