Resumen:
We studied the unoccupied electronic structure of La12xCaxMnO3 and LaMnO31d using O 1s X-ray absorption spectroscopy.The spectra reflect, through the oxygen–metal hybridization, the different metal bands. The first structure just above thethreshold corresponds to the unoccupied Mn 3d bands. The experimental results show that the unoccupied Mn 3d bands ofLaMnO31d are similar to those of La12xCaxMnO3. This is surprising, considering the fact that the mechanisms of hole doping arecompletely different. The results indicate that the potential disorder does not play a dominant role in these compounds. Thishelps us to explain the surprising similarities in the physical properties of these compounds.
