Resumen:
Carbon nanodots (CNDs) have emerged as a versatile platform for biomedical, sensing and catalytic applications. They can be simply prepared using microwave techniques and inexpensive materials, yielding 1-2 nm particles. They are strongly emissive and their absorption and emission bands point towards narrowly dispersed materials. It has been documented that CNDs undergo photoinduced charge-transfer processes with, for example, perylendiimides, etc. As such, CNDs are an appealing class of carbon allotrope, which are uniquely suited for energy conversion applications. Here, we present the synthesis and characterization of covalently linked CND-Ferrocene (CND-Fc) conjugates. IR techniques confirm the success of the conjugation. In those conjugates bearing ferrocene efficient quenching of the CND centered emission is observed. The nature of the underlying deactivation has been investigated by transient absorption spectroscopic measurements.
