Resumen:
Sediment and water samples from soda lakes of Ethiopia were screened for microorganisms producers of alkali-active ß-glucanase. Five colonies were selected according to the highest carboxymethylcellulose hydrolysis. According to 16S rDNA sequence analysis and physiological tests, four strains (SES01, SES22, SES4, SES05) were related to Bacillus halodurans specie and one was identified at genus level as Bacillus sp. strain SES33. Intergenic spacer regions fingerprinting showed different patterns for all selected strains with high molecular weight bands characteristic of alkaliphilic Bacillus. B. halodurans SES01 produced the most stable ß-glucanase when it was exposed to surfactant and chelating compounds (sodium lauryl sulphate, Triton X100 and EDTA). Indicating its potential as an additive for laundry technologies.
