Resumen:
Baccharis ulicina Hook. & Arn. known as "yerba de la oveja", is a perennial herb not consumed by cattle that infests grassland farms in the South of Buenos Aires province. Due to the lack of information about chemical control on B. ulicina, log rates of glyphosate and 2,4-D were evaluated, along with a set of sub-rate combinations of both herbicides. Doses used as recommended (X) for Glyphosate (potassic salt) and 2,4-D (amine) were 1215 and 875 g a.e. hec-1, respectively. Applications were made under controlled conditions at two phenological stages: Early Vegetative Stage (EVS) and Advanced Vegetative Stage (AVS), concurring with the natural cycle of the species. Dry weight of the treated plants was determined after one month. Analysis of variance and regressions for each herbicide and vegetative stage were performed. At EVS, all treatments showed deficiencies, controls obtained reached only slightly higher than 50%. Glyphosate recommended rate achieved 86% of control at AVS. Due to plants were actively growing, control results obtained at AVS seem to be more satisfactory than those reached at EVS. Recommended dose of glyphosate is suggested to obtain high levels of B. ulicina control at AVS.
