Poly(ethyleneimine)protect muscle lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in metal-catalyzed oxidation. Systems with CuSO4 or FeCl2 combined with H2O2 were detrimental for lactate dehydrogenase. The analytical chelating capacity of PEI was equal for all molecular weights of the polymer. PEI enhanced aggregation at lower concentrations and subsequently decreased until it was undetectable with higher concentrations. Hydroxyl radical formation during the metal-catalyzed oxidation reaction was inhibited in the presence of PEI. The polymer of higher molecular weights also exhibited a stronger free radical scavenging effect.
