Resumen:
Here, we focus on academic training opportunities in ANA countries, quantify a series of conservation capacity “indicators” in the region, and contrast them with similar figures calculated for the United States, where conservation capacity building is well developed. We also draw on information on investments made in expanding conservation biology graduate studies opportunities in the United States, to produce a back-of-the-envelope estimate of the costs of achieving similar objectives in ANA. Analogous analyses could be performed for other developing regions in the world to compile a database of global investment needs for conservation capacity building.
