A new genus and species of non-marine ostracods (Crustacea, Ostracoda) from Patagonian wetlands of Argentina

A new genus and species is described from a Patagonian lake in the province of Neuquen, Argentina. The genus and species clearly belong in the Eucypridini, and as such have a rather isolated biogeographical position in South America. The present description of a new species and genus confirms the validity of the ?c?-seta on the T1 as a good character to unite the Eucypridini (Martens 1989). In addition, the presence of porenwarzen in the anterior part of the valves confirms this relatedness amongst the genera in this tribe. However, it is clear that there are three types of such structures present in this genus (1) the normal (small) external porenwarzen which are quite common, (2) the large porenwarzen, present in fewer copies and (3) the enigmatic ?porenwarzen? on the inside of the (right) valve.
