Resumen:
p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; line-height: 120%; }Ecologicalintensification, or the improvement of crop yield through enhancementof biodiversity, may be a sustainable pathway towards greater foodsupplies. Such sustainable increases may be especially important forthe two billion holders of small farms or fields (smallholders), manyof which are undernourished, yet we know little about the efficacy ofthis approach. Using a coordinated protocol across regions and crops,we quantify to what degree enhancing pollinator density and richnesscan improve yields on 344 fields from 33 pollinator-dependent cropsystems in small- and large-holdings from Africa, Asia, and LatinAmerica. For holdings less than 2ha, we found that yield gaps couldbe closed by a median of 24% through higher flower-visitor density. For larger holdings, such benefits only occurred at highflower-visitor richness. Worldwide, our study demonstrates thatecological intensification can create synchronous biodiversity andyield outcomes
