Resumen:
As part of the development of a new mechanical heart valve and having selected a Ti-6Al-4V alloy coated with titanium oxide as the material for its manufacture, the wear resistant of TiO2 thin films obtained by anodic oxidation is evaluated. Anodic oxidation was performed at 20V to 70V in a H2SO4 1M electrolyte. The samples were thermally treated at 500ºC for 1h, and crystalline phases (anatase and rutile) were obtained. The wear tests were performed in a Ball-on-flat reciprocante machine in a range of loads from 1gf to 4gf and times between 60s and 1200s, using a diamond sphere as counterface. The counterface oscillates at 0.5Hz and 4mm in amplitude. The wear is measured using a profilometer and is calculated as the worn volume. The wear resistance of the coated samples is larger than the substrate, and increases with the thickness and with crystalline coating.
