Resumen:
We administered linguistic, semantic, and executive tasks to Parkinson?s disease patients with and without mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and matched controls. The patients exhibited linguistic and semantic deficits even in the absence of MCI. In both patient groups, executive dysfunction predicted disturbances of syntax and object semantics. Instead, lexical and semantic aspects of action verbs were disrupted in the absence of MCI and without executive influences, suggesting a sui generis deficit present since the early stages of the disease. These findings indicate that varied linguistic and semantic domains are differentially related to the basal ganglia.
