Resumen:
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the theoretical premises of the Circumscribed Infinites Scheme (CIS), a deconstructive translation scheme for translating poetry. Conceptually, the CIS owes much to Jacques Derrida´s postmodern philosophical postulates regarding the nature of the linguistic sign, the notion of difference and his idea of meaning as an inexhaustible textual effect. The scheme proper consists of three main components dealing with cultural, textual and exegetic aspects of poetic production and reception in the light of deconstructive theory. As the paper progresses, a procedure termed Translation by Minimal Replacement (TMR) –central to the practical application of the CIS–will be presented and analyzed. Finally, a general evaluation of the scheme will be put forward.
