Resumen:
Copper base alloys are widely used in corrosive environments especially in heatexchangers cooled by seawater. It has been proposed that the formation of a passive film ofmetal oxides reduces the corrosion rate, but the role of these films is still unclear. Thecathodic reaction of the corrosion processes in aerated environments is the reduction ofoxygen reaction and for this reason, the kinetics of this reaction on copper nickel alloys(Cu90Ni10 and Cu70Ni30) has been studied in 0.1 M borax solution. Pre-reduced and oxidisedelectrodes were compared. The results are analysed on the basis of a chemicalelectrochemicalmechanism involving a surface Cu(I)/Cu(II) couple and hydrogen peroxide asintermediate.
