Resumen:
NPRC has traditionally been considered a clear-338 ance receptor of NPs responsible for receptor-339 mediated degradation of these peptides. In the340 last years, this view has been overcome by several341 studies showing evidence of NPRC multiple342 effects on different cells and organs and of the343 existence of a specific intracellular mechanism of344 action. These effects would be mediated by CNP345 stimulation rather than by ANP and BNP. A main346 role on vascular, cardiac, and metabolic physiol-347 ogy and on bone turnover has been proposed.348 Many studies indicate that alterations of NPRC349 function and structure as well as the existence of350 gene polymorphisms would be implicated in the351 pathophysiology of several diseases. Further352 investigation is needed to completely elucidate353 the physiological role played by NPRC and also354 to understand how NPRC alterations at gene and355 protein level could contribute to the developmentof pathological states as a cause of natriuretic 356system disruption
