Resumen:
Groundwater contamination has increased due to anthropogenic activities, and is directly related to land use. This article reviews the different groundwater contamination sources, and the physical, chemical, and biological processes involved in contaminant transport and fate within the aquifer. Furthermore, protective and preventive measures currently in use to avoid or reduce groundwater contamination are also discussed.
