Resumen:
Drama translation presents the translator with challenges which differ from those affecting the practice of translating a literary text such as a novel or a poem. Whether the translation of a dramatic text is meant to be read as a literary text in the target culture/s or whether it is intended to be performed affects the way in which such text is translated. Following on the model of concretizations of the dramatic text put forward by Pavis, and adhering to a semiotic notion of text, this paper aims at conceptualizing theatre translation as retranslation, both within and beyond the linguistic sphere. Such study requires combining contributions from the fields of (re) translation studies, multimodality and the semiotics of performance. Accordingly, the goal of this paper is two-fold. Firstly, it discusses a model for theatre translation, which effectively encompasses the mentioned contributions. Secondly, it applies the model to a specific case study.
