Resumen:
In "The Tragic Roots of Jamesian Pragmatism", Vincent Colapietro confront us with one of the most important aspects of our existence; one which, doubtless, is urgent to recover nowadays: the tragic dimension of life. Following Hook, Colapietro presents the tragic as a moral phenomenon, related to a feeling of significant and irrevocable loss, thus sorrowful and unredeemable. In this sense, tragedy is tied to the experience of the death of certain possibilities that bear upon the constitution of the self. The purpose of Colapietro is to highlight the relevance of recovering this topic for current philosophical reflection, more specifically, for an ongoing tradition that has characterized itself for its focus on human experience: American Pragmatism. A historical movement that, in itself, represents the very process of working through loss but that, nevertheless, has repeatedly received the criticism of not coming to adequate terms with the tragic dimensions of human existence.
