Bramadero South River basin is located in the Central Andes of SW San Juan (Argentina) at 31° 50' S and 70° W, near the political border between Argentina and Chile. Central Andes of Argentina and Chile (31° to 35° S) are characterized by a mean altitude of 3500 masl, with numerous peaks above 6000 masl. Weather conditions in the region show a well-defined seasonal regime with maximun precipitation (300-400mm/yr)during the cold seasson (Ap-Oc) and scarse precipitation during warm seasson (No-Mar). MAAT in this valley is about -2.15 °C and global incoming solar radiation is really high (daily mean above 400 W/m2).The map was elaborated in ArcGis 10 using an ALOS PRISM (Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instruments for Stereo Mapping) image of april 2010 and ASTER v2 DEM. Ice bodies were automatically detected with supervised classification for ice-snow. Periglacial, glacial, fluvial, alluvial and mass wasting forms and deposits were manually identified and delimitated. Pre-Quaternary units (granitoids, volcaniclastic and volcanic rocks and sedimentites) were obtained from SEGEMAR geological maps. An intense field work was also made for local calibrations and visual check of landforms.
