Resumen:
Fitzroya cupressoides (alerce) old-growth forests grow in the Northern Patagonia of Chile and adjacent Argentina (40° - 43°S)and have been used for the development of multimillennial tree-ring width chronologies and temperature reconstructions. Someof these chronologies in the Chilean Andes show a steep increasein the last decades that might be associated with CO 2 fertilizationand/or increases in radiation. The objectives of this study were todevelop and update long Fitzroya chronologies for climatereconstruction. We present seven chronologies, the longeststarting in 3,600 BC, and their correlations with temperature, precipitation. We also present preliminary results showing theeffects of the removal of the CO 2 increase on the climatic signalof a regional chronology for the Chilean Andes. We accomplishedthis using the residuals of a regression between a regional tree-ring chronology for the Chilean Andes and a theoretical series ofintrinsic Water Use Efficiency (iWUE) obtained from a δ 13 Cchronology developed by us for one of the sites in the Andes.
