Resumen:
Background Dietary habits were associated to metaflammation and several non-communicable diseases. This study aims to evaluate the association between a proinflammatory dietary pattern and breast (BC), colorectal (CRC) and prostate (PC) cancer occurrence.Materials and methods Four dietary patterns were identified in a population based study in Córdoba (Argentina) through a principal component analysis. The first one was named Argentine Proinflammatory Pattern -APP- (processed meats, hard cheeses, refined cereals, pastry, oils -not olive-, as dominant food groups, with a high inflammatory potential). The adherence to APP was estimated in subjects of three case-control studies (346/566 cases/controls of BC, 147/304 of CRC and 174/345 of PC). Multi-level logistic regression models were fit to estimate the association between the APP adherence and BC, CRC and PC risk (with urbanization level as clustering variable). Results The APP showed a strong promoting effect on BC occurrence (highest vs lowest APP adherence, OR 2.23, 95%CI 1.45-3.42), though no association with the CRC or PC occurrence was found. There was significant aggregation linked to urbanization level in BC and CRC.Conclusions The inflammatory potential of diet may be considered for reducing BC risk.
