Trataré de exponer y discutir lineamientos principales que alcanzaron un desarrollo a lo largo de la historia de la interpretación moderna de las categorías de Aristóteles, concentrándome en problemas remanentes que conciernen a la relación entre la teoría de la predicación y la primera metafísica. A través de esto intentaré aclarar la unidad y compatibilidad del proyecto aristotélico de una teoría de las categorías que va desde Tópicos a Categorías, ofreciendo algunas propuestas para explicar la función central que desempeñan los conceptos sustanciales dentro del mismo proyecto. In this paper I intend to present and discuss some of the main issues in the development of the modern interpretation of Aristotle’s Categories. I will focus on some remaining problems that concern the way in which the theory of predication and the first metaphysics are related. I expect this will cast light on the unity and compatibility of Aristotle’s project of a theory of categories which goes from Topics to Categories. This will suggest a possible explanation of the central role played by substance concepts within these project.
