Resumen:
The aim of this work is to compare the catalytic properties of a semiconductor oxide as ZnO and Sr ferrite/ZnO composites for the photocatalytic oxidation of an azocompound as Orange II. Composites, prepared by a coprecipitation route and characterized by XRD, SEM, and magnetometry, were magnetically recovered with a 68% factor. The oxidation reaction was scanned by spectrophotometry. It followed a first order kinetics and its parameters were k1 = 0.0142 min?1 and t½ = 48.8 min. Sr ferrite/ZnO composites showed great stability in aqueous suspensions and excellent photocatalytic properties compared with the ZnO. The composite particles can be efficiently removed at the end of the procedure with a significant recovery factor, so they can be easily reused.
